The window pane in front of Sebastian’s mouth fogged up every time he breathed. Despite the freezing interior of the rickety bus (the heater was broken, of course!), Seb had his cheek firmly planted against the cold glass. He liked being able to watch the snow covered landscape go by as he bounced along. Despite it being dark out, he could see everything fairly well.
Generally, he hated automobiles with a passion, but he’d made an exception out of necessity. One couldn’t be picky when running for their life and Sebastien wasn’t a very fast runner. So, bus it was! Though his stomach still felt squirmy. Which was stupid since it had nothing TO squirm over. He hadn’t eaten in days and he didn’t see how puking, bus induced or not, could be conducive to his health.
The screeching of brakes and the sudden, jerky stop had Sebastien bolting up. He looked about frantically, half expecting some unknown to had demanded that the bus be stopped. That wasn’t the case of course. Busses usually stopped as bus stops.
“Last stop.” The driver rasped in a purely gratuitous announcement. The last couple of people were already ambling off the buss. Sebastian was at the tail end of them all, hesitantly crunching down into ankle deep snow. As the bus chugged to life behind him in a cough of smoke, Seb took a tentative sniff of the night air. He breathed deeply, scenting the cloying emission of the buss along with everyone who’d been on it as well as everyone in the vicinity.
It was official. He was at the ass end of no where. This was the last settlement before the borderlands. Before...nothing. Sebastien only prayed no one came out this far in search of him
